Urbain is a kind, caring, and charismatic young man who wears his heart on his sleeve. Self sacrifical, he puts the well-being of others above his own. He strives to help everyone he can, often running himself thin, all just to extend a hand. He takes on the burdens of others, always without complaint, including strangers. The second Urbain becomes aware someone needs his help, he rushes off to give them aid. Unfortunately, while his desire to help stems from good intentions, and a desire to repay the city that gave him so much, he does tend to get tunnel vision when someone’s faced with a problem. He’ll disregard his own friends just to go help someone else, much to their annoyance and frustration. Urbain, however, is oblivious to this, and doesn’t realize his desire to help others hurts the people closest to him, and even himself.Quick to act, Urbain rarely hesitates. While he has a tendency to get caught up in his own thoughts, he’ll push through them to the best of his ability. While a genuinely cheerful person, he does bottle up his negative emotions, and refuses to share them. He wants to give the vibe of a friendly, helpful person who can be relied on by everyone. If he gives in to his sadness, then he’s not setting a good example. He can’t be relied on when people worry about him. To help and be relied on is Urbain’s whole purpose in life; to lose that would mean losing his purpose, and he can’t have that. He has this need to protect and save everyone, regardless of how impossible it may seem.He comes off strong at times, and is incredibly stubborn. Once he sets his sights on something, he’ll rarely—if ever—budge. He hates making compromises, but can if he absolutely must. When trouble arises, the first action Urbain takes is to throw himself in the front of it, essentially like a sacrifice. While he doesn’t want to die, if his sacrifice means doing something good for even one person, then he’ll do it. This has, unfortunately, landed him in many dangerous situations, some where he’s almost lost his life. Despite the danger he may face, he tackles it head on, and swallows any fear that posses him. In that regard, Urbain’s incredibly reckless. He never considers the consequences of his own actions, nor does he think them through, he just acts. He takes on the “leader” role without even thinking. Being in charge comes naturally to him.Urbain’s very open about his passions. In particular: cooking. He loves concocting bizzare recipes, and he loves sharing them even more. Sharing and making food is an expression of love for him, he always ensures his teammates are well fed. He’s giving and aims to make people smile, even if his pursuit makes him look dumb. Every jab thrown his way, whether it be to tease or make fun of him, he takes head on. It’s hard to genuinely offend him. Insults do wear down on him, however. While he may laugh them off, and appear unbothered, he internalizes criticism. A part of Urbain wants to be perfect, and while he acknowledges such a feat isn’t impossible, he still strives for it. He won’t settle for anything less than a perfect mission; he can’t handle failure, and will refuse to accept it.He’s confident. Not only in himself, but in his team. Because of his disdain towards failure, he’ll try and try again, until he either drops from exhaustion, or succeeds. Thankfully, his strength is equally as intense as his personality, so it’s too often that Urbain runs himself ragged. Not during battle, at the very least. While intense, Urbain is a very polite person who plays into a heavily exaggerated “host” persona. He’ll bow as a greeting, use overly polite language, refer to the other as sir/madam, etc. He acknowledges it looks silly, but finds it fun and fitting, considering his ties to Hotel Z. He adores being hospitable; it’s in his nature. Regardless of how dumb it may make him appear.Urbain is, at his core, a truly good person, who only wants the best for everyone. While suddenly becoming Quasartico’s CEO has been an adjustment to make, he’s determined to make it work. His need to be busy helps his work, but is also at his detriment. He fixates on things and won’t rest until they’re done. As such, he often exhausts himself, and rarely gets any free time. He accepts it, though, and rationalizes it as being helpful towards not only people, but the city as a whole. Which is all he wants, even at the cost of his own health and well-being. If he owes a favor, he’ll return it tenfold. He has to give back to the city that’s given him so much.
Urbain was born on March 16th in Geosenge Town, Kalos. An area known for its ruins and fossils, his mother, Sylvie, who was an avid researcher, spent her days studying and poking through the many ancient debris. Unfortunately, his father wasn’t in the picture from the beginning; Urbain was the product of a one night stand. A fling that was supposed to mean nothing. When Sylvie found out she was pregnant, she begged the father to meet with her, so she could break the news. When he was told, he made it very clear he wanted nothing to do with the baby and began to ignore her every call and text from there on.Still, she didn’t have the heart to abort him. A part of her always wanted to be a mother, and she made decent money, too. So, she decided she’d keep the baby and raise him on her own. She knew it’d be hard, but she told herself she could do it. She began to buy a whole bunch of baby things: clothes, a crib, toys. She painted her spare room, turned it into a nursery, and went to apportionments all on her own. She ate healthy and monitored every little thing, all in preparation of Urbain’s arrival. When Urbain was finally born, she was ecstatic. She showered the baby in affection, and devoted herself to being a mother. So while Urbain didn’t have a father figure from the get-go, he was deeply loved and cared for. However, juggling a job and a baby was a lot harder than Sylvie thought. While she was on maternity leave for a year after Urbain’s birth, once that time was up, she had to return to work. She loved her job, and she loved her son. It was difficult to leave him in the care of others, but as time ticked by, she gradually became used to it, and came to trust her babysitter. Seeing her son light up at the mere sight of her the second she stepped through the door made every long day worth it.As Urbain grew, Sylvie slowly became more and more engrossed in her work. She’d start coming home later, to the point that, by the time Urbain got home from school, he was on his own. He’d have to cook dinner for himself, do the chores, and put himself to bed. He’d even make food for his mother, which he’d leave out for her to eat when she’d come home. Unfortunately, Sylvie wouldn’t come home until midnight most nights, when he was already fast asleep. When Urbain did get to see his mother, he’d practically cling to her and seek her affection. Every bit of attention Urbain received overjoyed the little boy, and made him more determined to help his mother by doing things around the house. It was difficult to do school and run the household, but he refused to back down. He’d stick to this routine for yeas.By the time Urbain was 10, Sylvie’s life would change again. She’d be offered a position as a researcher for a new business, known as “Flare” at the time. They were focused primarily on Kalos’ past and the legendary Pokémon that supposedly lived somewhere within the region. Luckily for Flare, Sylvie was very knowledgeable in both topics, making her a perfect fit for the organization. She dove into her new job headfirst and immediately began making strides with her research, allowing her to become well respected within Flare.Like her previous job, this one consumed Sylvie. While Urbain was happy for his mother, a part of him was sad nothing changed. He still rarely got to see her, and if anything, as she got more involved and engrossed in her research, it seemed like Urbain got to see her even less. And he did. She’d start to spend her nights and days at the lab, leaving the food he made for her cold and untouched on the table. Still, Urbain never gave up. Not on his schooling, and not on his chores around the house. He needed to be helpful, especially when his mother worked so much. Even if it hurt.More years went by with no change. Eventually, Urbain would be in his early teens. Now in high school, he’d become busier. At least he wasn’t lonely at school; he was always a popular kid who had tons of friends due to his kindness, but now with clubs, he had more to do. He’d join a club for cooking/baking and spend most of his time with his club mates. Since he already had a passion for cooking, he had a lot of fun with the club, and it helped him forget how lonely he felt back at home. He, too, would start coming home late. What Urbain didn’t know, though, was that Flare was a dangerous organization. His mother had begun looking into increasingly more dangerous things, due to the mounting pressure to get even more research done. Unbeknownst to Urbain, Sylvie would unfortunately fall ill due to the work stress, until one day, she suddenly stopped returning Urbain’s calls completely. Worried for his mother, he’d try calling her numerous times, but he never got an answer. She kept her work a secret, too, so he didn’t even know where to look to find her. The only clue he had was she could possibly be in one of the many buildings in Lumiose City, and that his grandmother might have an idea of which one. However, Urbain had no clue who his grandmother was. He’d have a lot to figure out on his own if he did decide to pursue his worries and curiosities.Eventually, Urbain’s worry would get the better of him, and he’d suddenly drop out of high school at the age of 16. He’d abandon his childhood home in Geosenge Town to go to Lumiose City to go look for her, too. It wasn’t like he could afford to keep the house without any income. With nothing but a few necessities, the jacket Sylvie left behind, and unwavering determination, Urbain would begin to wander the streets of Lumiose in search of answers. Since he was homeless now, too, he’d begin to sleep on the very same streets he was investigating. To gather more information, Urbain put his helpful personality to use. He’d start helping others in exchange for possible leads on his mother’s whereabouts. Unfortunately, his leads would lead Urbain nowhere, but it wasn’t a complete bust. He slowly began to build a reputation for himself in the city, to the point that people began to start seeking him out for his help. Which wasn’t a bad thing, Urbain truly didn’t mind helping others, and with more reach meant more leads. It was a win-win for everyone! He’d even sometimes score free hotel rooms and meals for a few of his favors, so he wasn’t on the streets 24/7 fighting for survival. He’d even meet Emma, a detective who offered to look into more leads for him, as long as he helped her with some tasks. He agreed, and began doing some light detective work for her, such as finding missing Pokémon. For a couple years, things steadily got better for Urbain. It was far from perfect, however. He was still homeless, and still looking for his missing mother. While he had come much farther since he first arrived in the city, it felt like he kept returning to square one. He’d decide to try and catch some Pokémon for himself to make things a lot less lonely and easier on himself. Before he could even obtain some Pokéball’s, however, someone he helped a few months ago approached him. They’d give him three Pokémon eggs as thanks for his help, since they noticed he didn’t have any Pokémon of his own.Urbain graciously accepted the three eggs and immediately began caring for them, anticipating the moment they’d hatch. When they finally did, he was greeted by Chikorita, Tepig, and Tododile. Elated to meet his new partners, the group would start doing everything together. Urbain would take on some tasks that required the help of Pokémon, too, such as driving off troublesome Pokémon that’d ruin café’s, steal things, attack people, and more. Urbain would become close with his team quickly thanks to all their help, and all the time they would spend together. He’d even slowly learn how to battle, too, something he seemed to be naturally good at.One night, approximately 6 months before the beginning events of Legends: Z-A, while wandering the city, Urbain came across an old man engaged in battle. The old man was up against what seemed to be an angry and odd-looking Talonflame. Urbain would jump in immediately to help the old man, whose advanced age kept him from being able to properly guide his evidently powerful Floette in battle. Despite not knowing anything about Floette, Urbain would take charge and successfully lead the Pokémon, allowing the duo to emerge victorious. Thankful for Urbain’s help, the old man would introduce himself as AZ.AZ would then explain a strange occurrence that was plaguing the city. He called it “Rogue Mega Evolution” — a phenomenon where Pokémon suddenly undergo mega evolution without a keystone and become extremely aggressive. They can only be calmed down after being defeated in battle. He theorized Rogue Mega Evolution greatly harmed the effected Pokémon, too, by possibly putting it in excruciating pain.Shocked by what he was hearing, Urbain immediately offered to help find a solution to the phenomenon. AZ, already impressed by his skills, would agree and contact Vinnie of Quasartico, a man who was already involved with solving the issue. Vinnie would be equally as impressed, and started explaining the situation in better detail, and even explained the Z-A Royale to Urbain, an all-out battle royale meant to find the strongest mega evolution user to help put an end to this issue once and for all. However, the royale still needed some fine tuning. Urbain, of course, offered to help iron out the details of the royale, and offered to take part in it. Vinnie would explain the new Wild Zone’s as well, describing them as a way to keep all the wild Pokémon drawn to Lumiose City by the excess mega energy safe and away from the public. Now that Urbain was involved with everything, AZ would offer the young man a place to stay at his hotel, known as Hotel Z. That way he’d be off the streets, as long as he helped. Urbain agreed. He was so inspired by AZ’s kindness that he’d form Team MZ right there, a team who’d not only save the city from the rogue mega evolution phenomenon, but they’d also take part in the Z-A Royale and prove themselves to be the strongest. When asked by AZ and Vinnie what the name meant, Urbain explained that the “M” stood for “Mega Evolution” while the “Z” stood for “Z-A Royale.”Once AZ and Urbain made it to the hotel, AZ would show Urbain a golden bracelet with a keystone embedded in the middle. He told him this could be a part of Team MZ’s “uniform,” and encouraged him to get stronger, so he could actually give it to him. Hopeful for the future for the first time in his life, Urbain would quickly get to work.A couple months later, Urbain would meet Naveen, a young man who ran away from home after his grandmother threw away his sewing supplies. He told Urbain he’d rather live on the streets than ever be rejected for his passions again. Urbain would offer Naveen a place to stay at Hotel Z, as long as he joined Team MZ. He could make a potential logo, maybe! Naveen was clearly hesitant, but he eventually agreed for the studio space.A month after meeting Naveen, Urbain would meet Lida, a young woman who was kicked out of her apartment, since her roommate suddenly moved out. She couldn’t afford rent on her own. Much like Naveen, Urbain offered Lida a place to stay at Hotel Z, as long as she joined MZ. Unlike Naveen, however, she immediately accepted the offer. To help AZ financially, and to recruit more members, Urbain would start making ads for Hotel Z, hoping to grab people’s attention. He would spot Harmony one sunny afternoon, and deemed her as the perfect tourist to star in his ad. Before she could even agree to the proposal, however, her bag stolen by a Pancham. Blaming himself for the theft, Urbain vowed he would get her bag back, and chased after the Pancham with his own three Pokémon in tow. Thus, the games events would transpire from there. Now, Urbain spends his time trying to manage the company given to him, as well as Team MZ. He’s busy all the time, but he thinks it’s important he manages the burdens on his own. He could really use a break… but he’d refuse one, anyway.
